Spotlight on this Week's Speaker: Tom Philion, President, United Arts Council

Pirates, Sphinxes, and Skateboards:
The vibrant world of art and arts
education in Greensboro in 2012.

Our speaker will discuss the success of
17 Days Greensboro and how it appealed to
large audiences –young and old. He will also
talk about how cultural organizations and the
UAC support arts education in Guilford County,
crowdfunding, and new trends in the arts.
Thomas Philion is the President/CEO for
the United Arts Council of Greater Greensboro.
Before joining the UAC, he served as
President/CEO of the Eastern Music Festival
and more recently as President/Executive
Director of the Seattle Symphony in Seattle,
Washington. Philion assumed his UAC post
on July 15, 2010.
Tom has more than 30 years of experience
as an arts administrator and performer. He has
earned the respect of leaders across the country
for his innovative approach to the challenges
facing the arts industry. He is a graduate of
George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia,
and serves on the Board of Visitors of Guilford
College. He was also a Salzburg Fellow in 1993.
